Meetinghouse Arts in Freeport presents “Nature’s Palette: Art Inspired by the Season,” its members’ fall show, through Oct. 18.
The exhibition features paintings, drawings, encaustics, photography, ceramics, glasswork, sculpture, fiber art and hand-pulled prints representing autumn in New England. An artists’ reception was held Sept. 17.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
WOMEN AT THE HELM OF SPACE TRAVEL
Freeport Speech will present “Women at the Helm of Space Travel: Is There Room in the Celestial Sandbox for Public and Private Exploration?” from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Freeport Performing Arts Center.
Darby Dyar, a planetary geologist, mineralogist and spectroscopist, is deputy principal investigator for NASA’s VERITAS mission to Venus. She will lead a conversation with Tara Ruttley and Pamela Melroy about the past, present and future of space exploration.
Ruttley is a scientist and engineer who serves as chief scientist for Orbital Reef at Blue Origin, where she guides the scientific vision for a next-generation commercial space station. Melroy is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and former NASA astronaut who most recently served as deputy administrator of NASA. She is one of only two women to have commanded the space shuttle.
HALCYON STRING QUARTET AND ALISA AMADOR
Halcyon String Quartet and singer-songwriter Alisa Amador will present “The Future Is Here” from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at Meetinghouse Arts Theater.
The multimedia performance will feature the stories and actions of Maine residents working to build creative, regenerative and resilient communities in response to the climate crisis.
FIDDLE-ICIOUS
Fiddle-icious, Maine’s largest community fiddle orchestra, will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Freeport Performing Arts Center.
The ensemble brings together more than 100 musicians of all ages and skill levels to perform reels, jigs, waltzes and songs passed down through Scottish, Irish, Québécois and Acadian traditions.
SCHOONER FARE
Schooner Fare will give an intimate matinee performance from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 15 at Meetinghouse Arts Theater.
VIP tickets include a post-performance reception at Freeport Oyster Bar, where guests can meet the performers and enjoy a complimentary beverage and passed appetizers, including raw bar offerings. Tickets will go on sale Oct. 1.
