“Red Sky at the Beach” by Leo Brooks

Mars Hall Gallery presents “Leo & Company”, the story of two artists and friends, the late Leo Brooks (1909 – 1993) of the Bronx and Monhegan Island and Elaine Reed of New Jersey and Bath, Maine. They met and painted together on Monhegan for 12 years as well as sharing time in New York and New Jersey. “He was a friend, a critic and a mentor to me”, Reed says of Leo. Reed, a member of Woman Artists of Monhegan Island, will be exhibiting recent works from her “Night Rhythms Series” done in the deconstructed watercolor method.  The show will feature Brooks’ work from several collections including postcard paintings he sent to a dear friend in the Bronx, two paintings from that hung on the wall in his Bronx apartment and several pieces that haven’t been shown before. A collection of letters and postcards between the friends will be on display.
