Michael Good Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Fred Good at the 499 Main Street location. The show of abstract paintings and works on paper launches during the gallery’s 17th Annual Summer Celebration on Friday, August 5, 2016, and runs through September 9th. The event is free and open to the public.
“I’ve been interested in spontaneity, both as it is manifested in nature and in the behavior of people,” Stated Fred Good. “My paintings are a visual manifestation of this interest which was inspired by my fascination with the Abstract Expressionism movement in painting and with psychodrama and group therapy in psychology. The current work is a continuation of my experimentation with the watercolor medium in the AE tradition.”
Since the 1960s, developments in the New York City art scene and social/cultural movements have deeply impacted Fred (Frederic W.) Good. While studying at seminal art centers and mentoring with psychology pioneers, he placed himself in the middle of New York City’s Lower East Side as a key – and highly successful — community organizer. Over time Good raised a million dollars in grant money for projects focused on children and education, visual and performing arts, and social issues particular to residents of the Lower East Side.

The Good exhibition opens during the August edition of Rockland’s First Friday ArtWalk. Each year, Michael Good Gallery hosts an Annual Summer Celebration in August, from 5-8pm. Complimentary refreshments will be served, and musical accompaniment by Kristen Tescher on (instrument) completes the event.
