Beginning on Friday, December 2, and for five consecutive Fridays, the Farnsworth Art Museum will present an experimental watercolor workshop led by artist Erica Qualey. The workshop will take place on December 2, 9, 16 and January 6 and 13, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the museum’s Gamble Education Center at the corner of Grace and Union Streets in Rockland.

This class is designed for people who have had some basic experience watercolor painting or are feeling adventurous and want to jump right in. During the five sessions participants will explore different experimental approaches to painting with watercolor and how to incorporate them into paintings. They will learn how to create dynamic washes, interesting textures, patterns, and marks that would be hard to achieve with traditional methods but can make a painting glow. There will be weekly demonstrations and lots of encouragement to try new things. The cost for this program is $150 for Farnsworth members and $180 for nonmembers. Erica Qualey is an artist living in midcoast Maine. She received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and works as an artist, illustrator, and studio instructor. Her work has been exhibited in Maine and New Hampshire and is in private collections throughout the country.
