Courthouse Gallery Fine Art in Ellsworth presents “Rooted in Art” and Alison Rector’s solo exhibition “Entry, Escape” through Oct. 30.
“Rooted in Art” concludes a season of events marking the gallery’s 20th anniversary. While the spring exhibition “Ellsworth As Muse” honored the gallery’s hometown, “Rooted in Art” turns its attention to the network of coastal communities surrounding the gallery and the deep connection to place shared by those who live in the region.
The exhibition brings together visual artists and poets to create personal interpretations of a sense of place. Water, light and atmospheric weather continually shape the landscape, giving this stretch of the Maine coast its quiet, enduring beauty.
“We are deeply grateful to the artists, poets, and writers who have shared their work with us over the past twenty years, and to the collectors, art enthusiasts, and many others who have been part of this exciting journey. We feel fortunate to have made Courthouse Gallery a reality and privileged to watch it grow into a lasting home for art,” gallery owners Michael and Karin Wilkes said.
A reception and poetry reading opened the exhibition Sept. 16.
An exhibition catalog for “Rooted in Art” is available from the gallery for $28, including postage within the United States.
ENTRY, ESCAPE
“Entry, Escape” highlights a new collection of Alison Rector’s interior paintings. Rector uses doors and windows to invite viewers into rooms where shifting natural light captures fleeting moments that feel both familiar and mysterious. Each painting offers a point of entry, discovery and escape.
