LOCAL COLOR Little Niagara
Jeff Wahlstrom, “Little Niagara.”

Local Color Gallery in Belfast will feature printmaker, collage artist and sculptor Jeff Wahlstrom from Oct. 19 to Nov. 22. An Art Walk reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 23, with an artist talk at 5 p.m.

Based in Bangor, Wahlstrom creates block prints and watercolor collages inspired by the natural beauty of Maine and Atlantic Canada.

His artistic development began with undergraduate classes at Bates College with Donald Lent and Robert Feintuch, experiences that helped shape his exploration of a medium he describes as “watercolor collage.”

Wahlstrom begins by painting broad areas of watercolor paper, then tearing, cutting and gluing the pieces together to construct images. The layered compositions create both actual and perceived depth, transforming paper into richly textured landscapes.

His work frequently depicts mountain summits, dramatic vistas and Maine’s rocky coastline, drawing on travels throughout the region with family and friends.

Wahlstrom has exhibited throughout Maine and New England, including at the Bangor Public Library, Sohn Gallery, Rudman Winchell Gallery and Taylor Gallery in Meriden, New Hampshire. In 2026, he presented a solo exhibition at Sohn Gallery in Bangor and displayed work at Chapter Two Gallery in Corea.

Local Color Gallery is at 135 High St., Belfast. The press release lists hours as 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call 207-218-1249 or visit localcolorgallerymaine.org. Wahlstrom’s work can also be viewed at www.jeffwahlstrom.com.
