The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockland is presenting “Because the Sky is Blue” through Jan. 17, accompanied by a series of film screenings, workshops and community programs in November.

The exhibition features Clémentine Adou, Wilfrid Almendra, Bo Bartlett, Vija Celmins, Selena Kimball, Ryosuke Kumakura, Glenn Ligon, Sharon Lockhart, Matthew Metzger, Julie Poitras Santos and Miao Wang.

At 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, the Strand Theatre will screen Albert Lamorisse’s short film “The Red Balloon.” A balloon parade to CMCA will follow, leading to a family-friendly ArtLab workshop in which participants can make hanging paper balloon sculptures.

Artist Mark Russell Jones will lead an Adult Makerspace workshop Nov. 15, using black-and-white landscape photography as a starting point for abstract oil paintings. On Nov. 21, CMCA will offer a free, drop-in ArtLab workshop at Midcoast Villager Café in Camden, exploring connections between words, images and color. The museum’s ArtLab Open Studios also continue throughout the month.

CMCA is serving as a Friday pickup location for Tenderwild Farm’s online winter store, featuring organic produce and goods from Maine farms and makers. Orders can be collected at the museum from 2 to 4 p.m. Fridays through January.

“Because the Sky is Blue” is supported by the Roxanne Quimby Foundation, the Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation, Harriet F. Hubbard, donors to CMCA’s Suzette McAvoy Exhibition Fund and Étant donnés, a program of Albertine Foundation and Villa Albertine. The exhibition catalogue is supported by the Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation.

CMCA is at 21 Winter St., Rockland. Winter hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit cmcanow.org.
