Mother Earth – Sister Moon – paintings and drawings by Kay Carter will be on display in the Back Gallery at Rock and Art Shop, 36 Central St, Bangor from April 4 to April 23. The opening is April 7 from 5:00-7:00 pm. All are welcome.
These paintings and drawings were inspired by a connection with both the natural and nocturnal environment. The Full Moon Rising series, completed mostly in pastels, was created between June and November 2016 on-site in New Mexico and Maine. From the stillness of the New Mexico desert in June, to moon rise during a Bangor waterfront concert in August, and the Supermoon rise over Blue Hill and Bucksport in November the series tells a diverse story of our activities within the cycles of time.
The drawings and paintings in the show, created in oil, pen and ink, charcoal, and nero lead each looks closely at minutia in our environment. The style varies between realism and abstraction.
