The midsummer show at the Blue Hill Bay Gallery features three artists whose recent works “en plein air” capture the stillness and quiet beauty of the downeast coast.
Bonnie LaBelle captures the intricate interplay of light and shadow of the sea and sky that envelop coastal scenes like our diminutive Pumpkin Island, which she present as a marvelous triptych. Bonnie studied oil painting with Edward Harrigan of Rockland, Massachusetts, who was mentored by Paul Strisik.
Descended from Russian grandparents who came to America in 1917, Stefan Pastuhov started his formal art training in Paris and received his BFA from the Boston Museum School/Tufts University. Painting in an impressionist style, with a loose brushstroke in larger pieces and finer detailing in smaller pieces, Stefan seeks out Maine’s unspoiled views of a varied coastal landscape.
Mary Byrom lives on the coast of Maine within close reach of her favorite painting locations, the marshes and the rocky coast. A trained designer, illustrator, and painter she has an academic background in fine art. She was recently the featured artist in “PleinAir Magazine”.
