The Harlow in Hallowell presents a solo exhibition of mixed media artworks by Andre Benoit of Boothbay Harbor, Maine. His solo show of multidimensional works is on view October 25-November 30, 2019 at 100 Water Street in Hallowell.
Andre talks about his work, inspiration, and process: “My intent as an abstract assemblist sculptor is to represent the human form and iconic motifs with repurposed wooden remnants. The origin of the components of my constructs is from a myriad of sources and environments, where the workmanship of hand or machine and exposure to the out of doors or ocean has created contours and patina respectively that catch the eye and entertain and maintain the interest of the viewer, as often do the stories of acquisition of requisite wooden materials. Since the expansion of representation from plein air oil painting over 35 years to wooden assemblage sculpture, what now captures my attention and involvement in creativeness, is not a fore, mid or background but rather a single piece of wood.“
Andre Benoit Solo Show is on view in the downstairs gallery in tandem with Art and The Land, a juried group show celebrating the Kennebec Land Trusts 30th Anniversary on view in the upstairs gallery. Both shows are on view October 25-November 30, 2019.
