
The Harlow announces their schedule of workshops for the month of September, 2018 including painting with different techniques, making your own custom tote bag, and open studios. Registration is now open for these workshops, held at the Harlow’s new, larger location at 100 Water Street in Hallowell. Pre-registration is required for all workshops unless otherwise stated. Spaces are limited and can be reserved by calling 207-622-3813 or emailing harlowgallery@gmail.com.
The schedule of workshops for September, 2018 is as follows:
Saturday, September 1, 10am-12pm: Open Studios: Bring your own supplies or project, or use any of our large assortment of supplies and materials during Open Studio. The Harlow has many inspiring views from inside, outside, deckside and nearby. We have everything from collage materials to button making supplies. Both floors of the gallery offer expansive river views, or tottle down to the rainbow chairs on the bulkhead and work outside. Bring your easel or drawing board and make a morning of it. Open to anyone. $5-$10 Suggested donation. No pre-registration required.
Saturday, September 8th, 9-1: CANMP Workshop with Penny Markley
Lead by Penny Markley in conjunction with the Capital Area New Mainers Project (CANMP), this workshop offers a place to create, and supplies to anyone who has an idea to express in response to the Harlow’s call for art for “A Nation of Immigrants: Home Lost, Home Found”. You can choose to work in acrylic, pastel, or watercolor. If you have supplies that you like to use, please bring them, there will also be supplies provided by the gallery. Cost is $15, Scholarships available for new Mainer’s. All ages, children must have an adult present. Please give your preferred medium when registering for this workshop. Pre-registration required.
Saturday September 15th, 10-12: Create and Take: Totes!
Using a variety of materials (stencils, stamps, paints, and fabric markers), create a unique and individual tote to reflect your personal style and interests. Use for the library, school, farmer’s market or as an everyday handbag. All materials provided including the tote. All ages, children must have an adult present. $15 Members/$20 Non-Members. Pre-registration required.
Saturday September 22, 10-1: Alcohol Ink Workshop with visiting Artist Jean Nitzel:
Learn the fun and colorful technique of alcohol ink painting with visiting Artist Jean Nitzel. This 3 hour course will allow you to learn the basic process, experiment and create a unique piece of art. You will leave with a completed painting and some supplies to continue on your own. Class size is limited to 15 people, Ages 18 & Up. All materials included. $40/Members $45/Non-Members. Pre-registration required.
Saturday, September 29th, 10-1: Introduction to Watercolor with Diane Dubreuil.
This workshop with water-colorist Diane Dubreuil (dianedubreuil.com) is designed for anyone who wishes to begin painting with watercolors or who may need help redirecting his/her creative thinking. Together we will establish some basic painting vocabulary, explore the basics of using equipment and watercolor paint, and have some fun too. Class size is limited to 10, all materials included. Please bring a bag lunch. Cost is $40 for Members $45 for Non-Members. Ages 16 & Up. Pre-registration required.
