The next Slow Flowers Maine Meet-Up will held June 3rd-4th 2019 at The Maine Repertory Theater in the Pepperell Mill Complex Biddeford Maine.  Tickets are available on eventbrite.

We are delighted to announce that this Spring’s 2019 Slow Flowers Maine Meet-Up is during Women’s History month. All of the business that are participating in the workshop are either 100% owned and run by women or women make up more than half of the business team. From local restaurants, flowers farms, glass blowers, dyers, photographers, models, florists, and potters.

The Slow Flowers Movement can be best explained by the creator, writer, speaker, outdoor living expert and advocate for American flower farming Debra Prinzing, as, “ a response to the disconnect between humans and flowers in the modern era. It aspires to reclaim the act of flower growing, recognizing it as a relevant and respected branch of domestic agriculture. Slow Flowers connects consumers with the source of their flowers, putting a human face of the flower farmer and floral designer behind each bouquet or centerpiece. The value of local, seasonal and sustainably-grown flowers is heightened when there is transparent origin labeling of all botanicals sold to consumers and professional florists”. The Slow Flowers directory has been created to enable people to find locally grown, domestic flowers and those special designers that are committed to using those local flowers or flowers within small geographic areas.

Workshop attendees will spend two days exploring the world of natural, hand dyed silk ribbon, designing foam free bouquet, tablescaping with unique elements, and creating a floral dreamscape in the round. A few highlights of the workshop will include a hands on demonstration by Marcia McDonald of (of Lana Plantae), bouquet designs by Hoke, tablescaping with Tibbetts, and special table elements created for the workshop by Biddeford’s own Joseph Webster Glass.

In addition to locally grown flowers, local restaurants and bakeries (Part and Parcel, Biscuits and Co,Night Moves Bread, Little Spruce Baking Co. and The Farm) will be providing the attendees with delectable food for breakfast, lunch, and a grande good-bye dinner set amidst the amazing floral designs crafted by workshop attendees.

The workshop is offered to any novice or experienced designer or creative seeking renewed inspiration, fresh ideas, a creative community, and an opportunity to explore the beautiful, evolving world flowers. You do not need to be a SlowFlowers member to participate.
