Barn Gallery will host a bookbinding demo and workshop.

A bookbinding demonstration will be held at 6 p.m. July 6 at Barn Gallery, led by Ogunquit Art Association artist-member Gayle Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick will then lead a workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the following day, July 7, which will cover basic bookending techniques so participants can start making their own artist books (works of art that utilize the form of the book) and unique journals and sketchbooks.

The workshop starts with an introduction and information on bookbinding tools and paper. It then takes participants through the following: a simple pamphlet book, a Japanese tab bound book, a basic codex, a hard cover accordion book, a soft cover book with signatures sewn on tapes and flutter books.

The workshop will focus on techniques, structures, tools, materials and processes.

Suggested donation for the workshop is $50. Pre-registration is suggested. Call Barn Gallery at 207-646-8400.

Barn Gallery is at Shore Road and Bourne Lane in Ogunquit. For more information, email [email protected], or go to www.barngallery.org.
