Work by Stephen Tofield.

Union artist Stephen Tofield has created a transformative installation that is on view at Salt Pond Studio featuring gorgeous sculptural forms that breach the gap between form and function.

The show runs Aug. 24 to Sept. 5.

Tofield’s intense craftsmanship and eye for form explodes in these beautiful wood turnings.

This unique gallery installation of both large and small vessels will be augmented by the sgrafitto porcelain works, as well as paintings by Friendship artist and gallery owner Pam Cabañas.

“After many years of building, designing and related problem solving, I understand that turning bowls and hollow pieces is an ancient, direct way of studying and describing form,” says Tofield. “The art of bowl turning turns a single line into a three dimensional object.”

Salt Pond Studio is at 522 Cushing Road, Friendship. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Call 207-691-5787 or go to www.saltpondstudio.com for more information.
