Ever since its founding in 1958, the nonprofit Maine Art Gallery has pursued its mission to advance the visual arts through exhibitions and educational programs. The 2023 season includes an exceptionally fine schedule of exhibits and classes that were designed to fulfill the organization’s vision of becoming a premier center for showcasing Maine art.

The 2023 schedule includes six shows and twelve diverse art classes from April through October. Each show will have a lively opening event, and many will offer special free lectures.

The season opens with the “Wiscasset Student Show,” April 15 to 30.

This is followed by a very special 65th anniversary exhibit, “Generations,” that includes art by some of the gallery’s founding artists alongside a curated exhibit of contemporary art, May 4 to June 10.

In June, the annual plein-air event, “Paint Wiscasset & Beyond,” will be shown from June 15 to July 9.

In July, exhibits chair Mark Coates presents a curated members show, “Working Maine,” from July 13 to Aug. 13.

The annual salon-style “Members Show” will be held Aug. 17 to Sept. 17, and the season concludes with an innovative showing of local craftsmen, “The Artful Interior,” Sept. 21 to Oct. 22.

The Maine Art Gallery is grateful to its season sponsor, Sherri Dunbar of Tim Dunham Realty, and to individual exhibit sponsors, Big Barn Coffee, Barnes Windows, Birch Home Furnishings, Camden National Bank, Dow Furniture, First National Bank, and J. Edward Knight Insurance.
