Work by Jean Kigel.

“Allen Island Paintings” will be featured at Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery at 1396 Back Cove Road, Waldoboro.

Last month, Kigel was among 11 artists chosen to travel to Allen Island, now Colby College’s Island Campus, to explore and create art. On this summer’s rare blue-sky day, Kigel painted a cluster of buildings created by Betsy Wyeth as a refuge for Betsy and as a place for Andrew to paint.

Kigel’s painting “The Settlement” records the stark, remote nature of what was once a fisherman’s island halfway to Monhegan.

Other paintings include dories, other buildings and seascapes.

Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery has flexible hours. Call first is recommended at 207-832-5152. For more information, visit www.jeankigel.com.
