The Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) is thrilled to announce record-breaking attendance this season, welcoming 21,000 visitors from April 12 through Nov. 17. This marks a remarkable 23.5% increase from last year’s attendance of 17,000, showcasing the museum’s growing popularity and the community’s support for the arts.

The increase in visitors can be attributed to the museum’s diverse exhibition schedule, which included the highly acclaimed Lee Krasner exhibition. This exhibition highlighted the early career of the influential artist and her connections within the vibrant New York art scene, drawing art enthusiasts from near and far.

“We are delighted to see such a strong turnout this year,” said OMAA executive director Amanda Lahikainen. “The incredible response to our exhibitions reflects the community’s appreciation for the transformative power of art. We are committed to presenting exhibitions that engage and inspire our visitors.”

Ogunquit Museum of American Art’s 2024 exhibitions included “Lee Krasner: Geometries of Expression,” highlighting the early career of this influential artist and her connections within the vibrant New York art scene, and “Domestic Modernism: Russell Cheney and Mid-Century American Painting,” which redefined Russell Cheney’s contributions to modernism through a domestic lens, showcasing the significance of his intimate surroundings in Maine. Additionally, “Networks of Modernism, 1898-1968” offered a fresh perspective on the museum’s permanent collection, while “The Architect of a Museum” celebrated the origins of the Ogunquit Museum, reflecting on its architectural and artistic legacy.

Looking ahead, OMAA will soon announce its 2025 exhibitions, which promise to continue the momentum. The 2025 season opens April 18.

The Ogunquit Museum of American Art is at 543 Shore Road, Ogunquit. Opened in 1953, OMAA was founded by the artist Henry Strater. The museum shares close historic and geographic ties to one of the earliest modern arts communities in the United States. OMAA houses a permanent collection of paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints and photographs from the late 1800s to the present.
