In a town where art and nature have long engaged in intimate conversation, Gallery 302’s newest exhibition offers a fresh dialect in this ongoing dialogue. Beginning May 10, the venerable Bridgton artist cooperative welcomes guest artist Amy Wagner, whose dimensional rope compositions transform the gallery space into a textural landscape that both challenges and comforts the viewer.

Wagner’s methodical approach to fiber art represents a compelling intersection of traditional craft techniques and contemporary artistic vision. Each piece begins as raw hemp rope, chosen for its earthy authenticity and structural integrity, which the artist then immerses in custom-formulated dye baths, creating palettes that echo the chromatic subtleties of Maine’s diverse natural environments.

“I love how the placement of each strand slowly brings my work to life,” says Wagner.

Her process begins with a sketch and a central focal point, expanding outward with texture, movement, and organic rhythm. The result is work that feels alive, grounded in nature and rich in depth and color.

Meet the artist during a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. May 16. Light refreshments will be served, and several cooperative member artists will also be present to discuss their own works currently on display in the main gallery space.

Wagner’s exhibition runs through June 13 at Gallery 302, located at 112 Main St., Bridgton. For additional information about this and other upcoming events, visit www.gallery302.com, or call 207-647-2787.
