When Aurora Winkler founded Art Agent Maine in 2017, she brought together two worlds she knows intimately: the business side of galleries and the creative life of working artists. After nearly two decades in Maine’s gallery scene and with formal training from Maine College of Art and Sierra Nevada College, Winkler has built a practice centered on one idea—nourishing connections within Maine’s art ecosystem.
“I want to facilitate on everyone’s behalf,” Winkler explains from her Western Maine home, where she balances running her business with raising two daughters and building a house with her husband and dogs. An abstract painter herself, Winkler participates in local shows and has been represented by galleries both within Maine and beyond. “As a working artist, I understand what artists need. But I’ve also worked in galleries since 2006, so I bring that multifaceted perspective to the table.”
Art Agent Maine offers specialized services for three distinct groups. For artists, Winkler handles the administrative side of creative careers—submitting exhibition applications, networking with galleries, refining professional materials, applying for grants, and managing the business tasks that can pull focus from studio time. Collectors benefit from her expertise in both estate sales and direct sales of established Maine artists. And for galleries, she explores collaborative opportunities, from guest curation to themed exhibitions and cross-promotional initiatives.
What sets Winkler’s approach apart is her ground-up understanding of how galleries operate. She’s worked every angle of the gallery world since 2006, giving her insider knowledge and established connections throughout Maine’s art scene. This experience, combined with her own artistic practice, allows her to speak fluently with artists about their work while understanding what galleries need to say yes.
“I’m interested in establishing real relationships and conversations,” she says. “Maine has such a vibrant art community, and I want Art Agent Maine to be a connector—bringing artists, galleries, and collectors together in ways that mutually enhance everyone’s presence.”
Eight years in, Winkler’s business continues to grow through word of mouth and genuine collaboration. She welcomes inquiries from artists seeking representation and administrative support, collectors considering estate sales or direct purchases, and galleries interested in exploring creative partnerships.
With new initiatives developing for 2026, there’s plenty of reason to stay connected. “We have some exciting things in the works,” Winkler notes. “I encourage people to check in regularly and see what we’re building next.”
