Meetinghouse Arts kicked off the season with a creative conversation featuring artist Charlie Hewitt on March 18, partnering with Freeport Community Services for the evening event. Hewitt is known for his Hopeful Project, a glowing installation originally commissioned by Speedwell in 2019 that has since spread to dozens of sites.

The gallery also hosted a Youth Art Month exhibition from March 26 to 28, inviting student artists in grades K-12 to display work in a professional gallery setting. An opening reception was held March 28 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Coming up, the gallery’s Refresh: Artist Spring Studio Sale runs April 17 through June 6, offering work at reduced prices as artists make room for new inventory. Gallery hours for the show are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

On the workshop front, Philip Frey leads Luminous Landscape: Color and Composition, an in-depth exploration of composition, color theory and best practices for landscape painting, April 8 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Upcoming stage performances include Ladies of Flame, an all-women musical ensemble, on April 11 at 7 p.m., and Erica Brown & the Bluegrass Connection on April 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at meetinghousearts.org.

Meetinghouse is teaming up with Visit Freeport again to invite makers, artists and craftspersons from Freeport, Pownal, Durham and New Gloucester to participate in Open Studio Saturday on April 25. Visit www.visitfreeport.com to get your studio on the map.
