Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset will open “Song of the Wild,” an exhibition celebrating Maine’s wild landscapes, flora and fauna, June 18 through July 26. An opening reception with the artists will be held June 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., featuring a musical presentation by The Flying Seeds, a Maine-based duo. The exhibition and all related events are free and open to the public.

The show is co-curated by contemporary realist painter Jane Dahmen and visionary naturalist painter Emily Sabino, who have shared a lifelong love of wild places. The ten participating artists are Eric Hopkins, Jane Dahmen, Sarah Faragher and Matt Barter (contemporary landscape painters); Barbara Sullivan (fresco artist); Lesia Sochor (mixed media); Liv Kristin Robinson (photography); Katherine Shagas and Joy Vaughan (abstract painters); and Emily Sabino. The exhibition is sponsored by Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust.

Works in the show explore themes including nocturnal pollination and moth paintings, nighttime wetland scenes, aerial views of Maine’s coastal islands, large-scale paintings of birches and white pine groves, bas-relief frescoes and birch bark sculptures of birds and mammals, and paintings honoring Maine’s wetlands and bogs.

Two related programs will be held during the run of the show. On July 11 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Sarah Gladu, naturalist and director of community science at Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, will present “The Impact of Air,” a talk exploring how air — including light, moisture and pollution — shapes the landscape around us. On July 16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m., author Kay Tobler Liss, photographer Jonathan Lavan and painter Emily Sabino will discuss nature as creative inspiration in a panel titled “Nature as Muse.”

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Maine Art Gallery is at 15 Warren St., Wiscasset. Visit maineartgallerywiscasset.org for more information.
