WILD COLOR KPerelka Vienna Mountain x
Work by Kathleen Perelka.

Shop Maine Craft in West Gardiner is presenting “Wild Color: Maine Inland Landscapes,” an exhibition of original pastel paintings by Maine artist Kathleen Perelka. The show opened June 12 and remains on view through July 24. An opening reception was held June 13, inviting visitors to explore Perelka’s vibrant interpretations of Maine’s fields, marshes, blueberry barrens and other wild inland landscapes.

A self-described colorist, Perelka approaches each landscape through the lens of color, carefully observing reflected light, shadows and the subtle hues that lie beneath the surface of the natural world. Her paintings celebrate Maine’s expansive open spaces and invite viewers to see familiar places with fresh eyes.

“I am most alive outdoors,” Perelka said. “Sounds, scents and color feed me.” Drawn to landscapes where nature remains the dominant presence, she paints the marshes, farmlands and undeveloped expanses that define much of Maine’s character. Rather than documenting every detail, Perelka seeks to capture the essence of a place, a season or a particular quality of light.

Kathleen Perelka has been a member of the Maine Crafts Association for more than 10 years and is the owner of Pinnacle Studio in Cannan, Maine. To schedule a visit to her studio, call 207-474-6168.
