Freeport’s Sidle House opened its summer season June 25 with exhibitions featuring 11 artists, along with expanded outdoor sculpture in the gardens.

“Life Forms: Change” is the final small-group show in a four-year series featuring Bronwen O’Wril, verónica pérez, Celeste Roberge and Erin Woodbrey. Life Forms is a sculpture collective of 12 artists and an experiment in artistic community building. Through the series, the artists aim to deepen relationships with each other and discover new connections through their creative practice.

The exhibition explores the theme of change through works related to ocean warming, sea-level rise and climate; the body’s vulnerability, living through loss and mortality; and enlivened ebbing and flowing forms that appear to seek meaning and purpose.

Alex Bruehl returns to Sidle House with “Mended,” a solo show selected from his “Vessels” series examining wounds, healing, scarring and floriography. The pieces, which depict detailed images of flowers and vessels, were cut and repaired by the artist with surgical sutures using implements his father used when he was practicing medicine. Bruehl is a multidisciplinary artist with backgrounds in music, film, acting and writing who is presently exploring visual storytelling through the fine details captured in his photography. He recently returned to Maine after years away in Chicago and New York.

“Marjorie Moore Presents: The Show Must Go On!” has origins partially rooted in childhood nostalgia, including the artist’s early visits to amusement parks, carnivals and the circus. Through her reworking of once-cherished found materials, Moore seeks to meld loss and beauty, mystery and irony to explore both the light and dark sides of spectacle that holds both humankind and animal life. The exhibition includes the first public viewing of the film project “Animal Affairs,” created by Moore, filmed by Huey and partially funded by NEFA in 1992.

Outdoor sculpture on display in the gardens has expanded in recent weeks. This season features available pieces by David Allen, Evan Haynes, Charlie Nordstrom, Sharon Townshend and Melita Westerlund.

Upcoming events include Plein-Air Day with Deena S. Ball on July 2; Marjorie Moore & Friends Artist Talk & Film Screening at 1 p.m. July 10; Celeste Roberge Artist Talk at 1 p.m. July 25; Bronwen O’Wril & verónica pérez Artist Talk at 1 p.m. Aug. 1; and artist-in-residence Kate Teale from Aug. 11 to 22, with an artist talk and show Aug. 22.

Sidle House is at 20 Bartol Island Road in Freeport. Summer gallery hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and by appointment through Aug. 8.
