Harpswell Collective celebrated its grand opening July 18 and 19, welcoming hundreds of visitors to the former Estes Lobster House during the Harpswell Open Studio Tour.

The opening weekend featured artist studios, the inaugural “Maine Love” exhibition, a community weaving project, food trucks, family art activities, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and an evening reception celebrating more than 40 resident and exhibiting artists.

“Watching people connect with artists, make art together, and spend time in a space that sat vacant just a short time ago was incredibly meaningful,” founder Liz Ziegler said. “Our hope has always been to create something that serves both the creative community and the broader Harpswell community — a place where people feel welcome to gather, discover, and be inspired.”

The waterfront property has been transformed into a year-round creative campus with working artist studios, rotating gallery exhibitions, a shop featuring Maine artists and makers, workshops, classes, community events and open studio experiences.

“Maine Love,” featuring work inspired by the landscapes, people and spirit of Maine, remains on view through Aug. 15.

Harpswell Collective will hold an open studios event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 8. Upcoming artist showcases include Brad McFadden from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 13, K8 the Earthling at the same time Aug. 20 and Sandra L. Dunn at the same time Aug. 27.
