Salt Pond Studio presents the extraordinary works of Joseph Scheer in an exhibition titled “Collide.”
Scheer’s works are a collision of art and the natural sciences. A master printmaker, Scheer focused his attention for many years on the lowly moth, capturing and scanning over 1,000 species. Through his technique of high-resolution scanning and mastery of digital media, he has created gorgeous prints of a scale that reveals these often-overlooked and diminutive creatures in exquisite detail. Through the magic of Scheer’s works, these tiny flying creatures reveal their intrinsic beauty, before hidden to the human eye.
Scheer is distinguished professor of print media at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, founder and director of the Institute for Electronic Arts at Alfred University, and among his other achievements, Scheer is a Fulbright Scholar.
The show runs July 6 to 23. An opening reception will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. July 8. An artist talk will be held July 9 at The Hahn Center, MainStreet, Friendship. Admission is free. The talk will be followed by coffee and treats at the Salt Pond Studio.
