The solo exhibition “Landscape as Home” by Dorothy Feeley will open July 10 with an opening reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Cygnet Gallery. The show will run through July 27.
This celebrated artist has previously participated in two group exhibitions at the gallery last year.
Feeley’s artistic inspiration stems from the natural beauty she encounters — shapes and patterns in the sky peeking through the trees, light reflecting off the water, and distant landscapes she explores while hiking. Her creativity is also fueled by her immediate surroundings, including her garden, home and kitchen.
“I used to think painting and creativity only happened on canvas, but now I realize it’s all creativity,” Feeley says. “When I am painting, I give myself full permission to be expressive in any way that brings me joy. Maybe that’s pushing the boundaries of what and how I’ve always painted. Perhaps I am making marks and love notes with pencils and crayons, using collage, or pulling the paint across the surface with a finishing trowel. I have been known for my rich colors, and I am beginning to break the rules. My focus right now is to understand why I paint what I paint.”
Feeley’s work is known for its vibrant colors and expressive techniques. Her current exploration involves a deeper understanding of her artistic motivations, making this solo exhibition a captivating experience for all attendees.
