“Installations” and “Revelations: Painting in Reverse” are on view from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday or by appointment at Sidle House Gallery through July 19.
“Installations,” a play on words emphasizing stalls once used for cows, goats and sheep, is a novel way to explore the gallery’s barn spaces. Artists Ian Trask, Erin Bundock, Hannah Berta, Ashley Page, Kate Gerwig, Samantha Rand and Justine Lasdin were invited to remake the various barn chambers with their distinctive materials and techniques.
Visitors will be able to immerse themselves within and inhabit these characteristic and connected worlds.
“Revelations: Painting in Reverse” in the Studio gallery is Maine’s introduction to Mexico and New York-based artist Bobbi Van. Through her paintings in reverse on transparent surfaces, Van explores “the spaces in between sound and silence, thought and action, arrival and departure, movement and stillness.”
Art critic Siba Kumar Das wrote, “In giving voice to her feelings and ideas, Van creates paintings that signify their presence through sheer expressiveness. Images and colors and textures have infinite possibilities … Van explores their frontiers even as she surrenders to them, the end product being things of great resonance and beauty.”
Closing receptions for these two shows will be held at Sidle House Gallery from 3 to 6 p.m. July 19.
“Home and Away” is on view July 1 to Jan. 31, 2026, with hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Thos. Moser Furniture Showroom & Art Gallery.
