“Custom House Wharf” by Jean Kigel.

This July, Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery presents “Wild Caught,” an exhibit of sustainable seafood fishing. Features is Custom House Wharf in Portland. Maine lobstermen have taken pride for years in measuring lobsters to ensure a sustainable size — not less than 3 /4 inches or more than 5 inches in length from the eye socket to the end of the carapace.

The historic wharf on the Fore River in Portland is a testament to this practice.  The wharf has maintained its quaint appearance, and lobstermen still tie their boats up there.

Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery and its seaside gardens are located at 1396 Back Cove Road in Waldoboro. The gallery is open daily throughout the year with flexible hours. Call first is recommended at 207-832-5152. For more information or to view paintings, visit jeankigel.wordpress.com.
