“Exploring Allen Island, Muscongus Bay” by Jean Kigel.

September is a prime time to explore the Maine coast. Start by viewing the exhibition of scenes from Muscongus Bay islands and the mainland this month at Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery, 1396 Back Cove Road, Waldoboro.

Featured is “Exploring Allen,” an island she had the privilege to spent a day painting on. It is the largest of a cluster of islands in the south-east of Muscongus Bay, halfway from the mainland to Monhegan Island. Its buildings and dories were restored by Betsy Wyeth for her husband, Andrew Wyeth. The island is now an ecological research campus for Colby College.

Jean Kigel Studio + Gallery and its seaside gardens are located at 1396 Back Cove Road in Waldoboro. The gallery is open daily throughout the year with flexible hours. Call first is recommended at 207-832-5152. For more information or to view paintings, visit jeankigel.wordpress.com.
