Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset has shaped its 2026 exhibition season around the ways artists respond to the natural world and Maine’s place in the sustainable agriculture movement.
The season opens with “Art to Table: Visual Sustenance,” a juried show examining individual and communal relationships to food through works that elevate ingredients, meals and rituals. The show celebrates Maine’s role in the farm-to-table movement and opens May 7. Artists may submit work through April 12 at www.maineartgallerywiscasset.org/2026-exhibits.
Before the main season gets underway, the gallery presents its annual K-12 Wiscasset Public Schools Student Art Show, featuring work from Wiscasset Elementary and Wiscasset Middle/High Schools. More than 100 works in a variety of media will be on display. An opening reception is Thursday, April 9 from 4 to 6 p.m., with the exhibit running April 9 to 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show is sponsored by First National Bank.
Opening June 18, “Song of the Wild: Honoring the Natural Beauty of Maine” features distinguished Maine artists including Jane Dahmen and Eric Hopkins, with work ranging from aerial views of ocean and islands to close-ups of insects, healing plants and amphibians. Educational programming in partnership with Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust will accompany the show.
The gallery’s annual “Plein Air: Paint It Maine” exhibit opens July 30, with artists creating work anywhere in the state between July 11 and 25. Running concurrently on the second floor is “The Art of Alchemy: Collage/Mixed Media Exploration,” a juried show inviting artists to incorporate multiple mediums in a single work.
The season closes with “Made in Maine: Annual Members Show,” opening Sept. 10 with recent work by members alongside a selection of early Maine Art Gallery members’ work, highlighting their role in the history of Maine visual arts.
Classes themed to complement each exhibition will be offered throughout the season. More information can be found on the gallery’s website.
