Indigo

Indigo Arts Alliance, Portland’s Black-owned, Black-led, and Black- and Brown-centered arts and culture nonprofit — the first of its kind in Maine — is marking its seventh anniversary this month.

Since opening in 2019, the organization has embodied a multiracial approach to the intersections of citizenship, community-building and creativity. Founded by co-founders Daniel and Marcia Minter, Indigo Arts Alliance was established to provide artists of color with space to create freely, uplift one another, nurture community and build a global support network that reaches across borders and generations. The organization has served more than 80 artists in residence and aims to reach 100 by the end of 2026.

To celebrate, Indigo Arts Alliance is inviting supporters to make a $7 birthday gift — one dollar for each year — to sustain its mission and build equity for Black and Brown artists.
