UMVA opens
Peter Walls, “Moulineaux (Camden).”

The Union of Maine Visual Artists opened two spring exhibitions in May in Harpswell. “Celebrating Hope” launched with a well-attended opening reception during Portland’s first art walk of the season. “It’s the Small Things” opened the same week at the Jean Picker Gallery at Camden Public Library, with a reception held May 9. Thanks were extended to Ann Tracy, Sally Stanton, Liv Kristin Robinson and Randy Fein for their work bringing both exhibitions to life.

The UMVA has also opened its call for art for “Dreaming at Dawn,” its largest exhibition of 2026. The show will be on view at Bangor Public Library in August and September. All current UMVA member artists are eligible to apply, with selections made by juror Peter Walls, a Maine-based painter known for shaped landscape paintings and large-scale installations. Walls held a solo exhibition, “Memory Palace,” at the Zillman Art Museum in Bangor last summer. The application deadline is June 7.
