This Temporary Space in Thomaston opened “We Are All Magicians,” a group exhibition featuring works by Alanna Hernandez, Annika Earley, Bethany Engstrom, Cindy McGuirl and Monserrat Indarte, with a public reception May 30. The show runs through June 26.
The exhibition brings together artists who approach magic not as illusion but as a way of understanding and moving through the world. Across their practices, magic emerges through performance, connections to heritage and ancestry, acts of transformation and moments of escape from the constraints of the physical world. The artists use their work to process emotion, memory and trauma, with the act of creating becoming a kind of ritual through which something difficult can be expressed, held and slowly reshaped.
