To celebrate Arts Advocacy Month this March, Waterfall Arts presents the second annual Young Artists Gallery Takeover exhibit which opens with a reception on Friday, March 3 from 5 to 8 pm. The reception is free, everyone is welcome to attend, meet the artists and enjoy the show.
Young people from Waldo County schools and youth groups created the artwork filling the galleries. The purpose of the exhibit is to recognize these young people as our next generation of creative artists. Arts Advocacy Month emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages support for quality school art programs. It also provides a forum for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences that are not possible in other curriculum subjects.
In addition, the show will highlight what’s going on with the arts in the schools and recognize art educators and teachers. The Young Artists Takeover exhibit will be up through March 30th; gallery hours are 10 to 5 Tuesday through Friday and by appointment.
Since 2000, Waterfall Arts has served as the midcoast area’s non-profit community art center, offering innovative classes, open print, clay and photography studios, exhibitions, studio rentals, and cultural events. Youth and family programs are supported by the Green Store, the Kendel Kennedy Fund, the NLT Foundation and the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts.
