The early fall show at the Blue Hill Bay Gallery features three artists whose recent works portray the beauty of Blue Hill, Acadia and the Downeast Coast.
Varvara Agabekova was born in St. Petersburg and graduated from the Repin Academy of Fine Arts, where she was awarded two medals in painting and her diploma with honors. She became a member of the Art Union of Russia, and her paintings have been in many group and solo exhibitions throughout the past decade. Her paintings are in private collections in Russia, the U.S., France and Spain.
Stefan Alexis Pastuhov began his formal art training in Paris and received his BFA from the Boston Museum School. Stefan moved to Maine in 1984 and fell in love with the state. Painting en plein air with a loose brushstroke in larger pieces and finer detailing in smaller pieces, Pastuhov appreciates the fact that Maine still offers unspoiled views of a varied rural and coastal landscape.
Phil Laughlin has just brought fresh new works to the gallery following a scouting trip to the Blue Hill Peninsula, where he was especially impressed with Stonington. Laughlin trained at the Worcester Museum Art School and began to explore modern realism as a young artist in New York City, where he studied at the Art Students League. He has lived and painted in New England since 1986.
