Last month to view ‘Flight Risk: Fine Art for the Birds’ at Harbor Square Gallery

“Flight Risk: Fine Art for the Birds,” the centerpiece of Harbor Square’s 42nd season, will continue through October. This vast exhibit features a wide variety of avian inspired work, created by artists from Maine and around the world.

Proceeds from Flight Risk are being shared with the Maine Audubon Society in support of their conservation work.

Gallery owner Tom O’Donovan’s inspiration for this season’s show was the noticeable decline in birds.

“Birds of every kind and color are everywhere at risk,” he says. “There is no need here to list the many reasons for this. There is, I believe, a clear need for a greater attention to their plight and by extension to our own lest Rachel Carson’s sad premonition come to pass. What then can we do? What is our calling here in this place and time? ‘Flight Risk’ is our response to that question.” 

The gallery will be open for the final First Friday art walk of the season, Oct. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m. Those unable to make it to the gallery in person can view a virtual tour of the show at www.harborsquaregallery.com/the-gallery.
