Lisa Milda Kellner uses a reductive language and intuitive approach to make paintings and constructions that explore how we occupy space. The artist will be in residence at Granite Gallery from Sept. 7 to 13 and invites guests to stop by between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Her solo exhibition “Everything Already and Then” opens Sept 8 at the gallery, located at 68 Main St. in Tenants Harbor.
Inspired by nature, history and the spaces humans create for themselves, my work conflates place and structure with memory and perception. I draw upon my own experiences of place, seeking to distill the natural world and our perception of things down to their very essence. The paintings are built up layer upon layer, sometimes allowing what’s underneath to be revealed. I’m interested in how the process of painting itself becomes a mode of communicating the emotional tenor of space. — Lisa Milda Kellner
