Larry Pollans: “Jigsaw”
July 3 to 17
Opening reception 5 to 7 p.m. July 3
The jigsaw — both the puzzle and the tool — act as muse and informant as Pollans deftly balances negative and positive space to reveal figures, flora, and fauna in these engaging tableaux. Visual snippets — a cartwheeling figure, a mangrove thicket, a wrought iron gate, the spine of a leaf — provide starting points for this new work. The unexpected result is exuberant movement and rhythm contained in a compact space.
Maine jewelers featured throughout the summer: Devta Doolan, Mozelle, Nisa Smiley, Michael Good, Martin Key
Meet the artists July 3
Maine has a rich tradition of inspiring jewelers. Doolan sculps high karat gold to hold fanciful gems in minimalist refinement. Mozelle adds fused metals and 24k gold to steel, transforming the humble metal into luscious body adornment. Smiley’s joy comes from gifts from the sea that become wearable talismans of nature. Good’s hammered anti clastic forms are feminine in their beauty and shapes. Key is a colored gem cutter with a penchant for optical magic, and an innovative jeweler who has received five AGTA Spectrum awards for jewelry design.

We have loved Barbara’s jewelry for decades. I am delighted to introduce her son Timo Krapf, whose fluid work is sensual adornment for the body. He pushes and pulls gold with precise hammer blows that stretch the metal to create dynamic elegant forms.Barbara is the creator of contemporary classic jewelry in 18 kt. gold and gemstones. She is a familiar friend to many.
